Each year on March 8, Armenia pauses to celebrate women—with flowers, music, and heartfelt appreciation. Recognized as one of the country’s most cherished holidays, International Women’s Day is a time when families, schools, and communities honor the strength and contributions of women in every part of life.

This year, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Armenia joined the celebration with special activities focused on uplifting women and recognizing their divine worth.

Local Branches Organize Meaningful Celebrations

Across multiple branches in Armenia, members gathered to host Women’s Day events that included music, food, and gospel messages about the role of women in God’s plan.

In one branch, the Relief Society helped organize a dinner and a devotional focused on the role of women in the scriptures. At every event, all women received a flower according to local Armenian tradition.

“It was more than a celebration,” said one Relief Society sister in Yerevan. “It was a reminder of our value—not just as women in society, but as daughters of God.”

A Holiday Deeply Rooted in Armenian Culture

In Armenia, Women’s Day marks the beginning of a monthlong focus on women and mothers. The love and respect shown on March 8 carry deep cultural meaning—an expression of family, tradition, and care.

Latter-day Saint women in Armenia bring unique strength to their homes, congregations, and communities. Whether they are nurturing children, serving missions, teaching, or leading in Church callings, they reflect the Savior’s light through quiet faith and steady service.

The Eternal Importance of Women

Throughout the Women’s Day activities, leaders and members reflected on the eternal identity and purpose of women in the Church.

“We believe in the divine nature of women,” said one local leader. “Our Relief Society sisters are builders of faith, unity, and strength. We are grateful for all they do—not just on holidays, but every day.”

As President Russell M. Nelson has taught: “Women shape the future. In their divinely appointed roles, they are central to God’s work and His glory.”

A Spirit of Joy and Unity

For many who attended the Women’s Day events, the spirit of love and unity lingered long after the celebrations ended.

“It was simple, but powerful,” one attendee shared. “It reminded us that the Church is a place where women are seen, loved, and needed.”
